The job

Crops: Collards, Kale

Workers will manually plant, cultivate and harvest vegetables such as: Regular Green Kale, Stemless Green kale, Collards, Organic Green kale, Organic Collards. Workers will perform a variety of duties related to the production of kale and vegetables. Workers will be required to use hand tools, such as Knives, hoes, shears, carts. Duties may include weeding, thinning, or pruning crops, cleaning, grading, sorting, packing and loading harvested products.

There is a considerable amount of stooping and kneeling throughout the various tasks being performed. Care must be taken to prevent damaging produce and plants. And manually remove weeds by hand or with digging tools. Workers may be asked to pack crops in totes, bins, clamshells, tie or bundle items, weigh product and load product by hand. When work is performed in the field workers must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required.Workers wearing clothing inappropriate for work will not be permitted to start work. In addition, workers will be required to perform every day duties applying food safety policies. Workers will also engage in maintaining the equipment, restrooms, and fields in sanitary condition by sanitizing equipment, restrooms, lunch tables, picking up packing material, boxes, labels, trash, and discard of any other unwanted items. Work will also include mechanized fieldwork using power equipment. By way of example and not limitation power equipment may include tractors, Trailers, forklifts. Workers will be expected to be able to operate agricultural equipment with or without direction. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex, or non-routine activities will be supervised. Field workers will be expected to perform their general duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision. Workers must obey all safety rules and basic instructions and be able to recognize, understand and comply with safety, pesticide warning, etc. Workers must be able to perform manual as well as mechanized activities with accuracy and efficiency. This is hard, strenuous labor, under cold, wet conditions in the winter and spring.

Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)

Meals: Employer-provided housing includes free and convenient kitchen facilities with appropriate equipment, appliances, cooking accessories, and dishwashing facilities for meal preparation. Workers residing in employer-provided housing will be provided free transportation once per week to/from closest town or city for personal errands (e.g., groceries, banking services). Dining, kitchen/cooking facilities and other common areas are shared by all workers. In the event that kitchen facilities become unavailable during the contract period, employer will provide three daily meals in accordance with 20 CFR 655.122(g). In such circumstances, employer will deduct the cost of such meals up to the maximum allowable amount published in the Federal Register, or as otherwise approved by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Transport: Employer will permit workers to select any means of transportation they choose and reimburse workers at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier (e.g., van, bus, plane) transportation charges for the distances involved for both inbound and outbound transportation. Inbound transportation provided from the foreign worker's home city to the U.S. consulate and from the U.S. Consulate to the work site.

The job requires a minimum of 3 months of verifiable commercial agricultural employment experience, preferably on a vegetable farm, handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities.
