The job
CY Farms, LLC is engaged in a seasonal farming operation which includes three (3) basic crops: crawfish, rice, and soybeans. These three (3) crops are planted and harvested in successive and overlapping order. There is an increased work load between the start of field preparation for the first crop until the harvest of the last crop. The increased work load spans a period of ten (10) months out of a twelve (12) month period. The crop seasons for CY Farms, LLC are not confined to a single calendar year as they begin in November of one year and end in September of the next year.
CY Farms, LLC has a need for labor beginning in November so that the fields can be prepared for crawfish season. Crawfish ponds must be drained and prepared, and levees must be repaired before the ponds can be flooded again in order for the crawfish to be seeded and grown and eventually harvested. Crawfish harvesting begins in December and continues through June.
CY Farms, LLC then must prepare rice fields for planting of rice in or around March.
Soybean fields must then be prepared so that soybeans can be planted in May.
Harvesting of rice and soybeans occurs in late summer and fall.
The preparation of the fields, planting, and harvesting are labor intensive farming activities, and our farmers need the help that the H2A workers provide during the crops seasons between November and September.
DUTIES INCLUDE: MANUALLY CUTTING FISH BAIT, BAITING AND CHECKING TRAPS, GRADING AND WASHING CRAWFISH FOR SHIPMENT; MAKING AND REPAIRING TRAPS AS NEEDED; WALKING BEHIND PUSH-CRAWFISH BOATS IN THE FIELDS; FIELD PREPARATION*; WATER MAINTENANCE; FERTILIZING, PLANTING, AND HARVESTING CROPS.
* FIELD PREPARATION INCLUDES MANUAL SHOVEL WORK, HOEING WEEDS, SPOT SPRAYING TREATMENTS, GENERAL FARM LABOR AND EXTENSIVE WALKING.
REPAIRING AND MAINTAINING FARM, FIELDS, LEVEES, ROADS, AND SHOPS.
3 MONTHS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: EMPLOYER WILL FURNISH FREE AND CONVENIENT COOKING AND KITCHEN FACILITIES SO THAT THE WORKERS MAY PREPARE THEIR OWN MEALS.
EMPLOYER WILL FURNISH UTENSILS FOR COOKING, FOOD PREPARATION, SERVING AND EATING AT NO COST TO THE WORKERS.
EMPLOYER WILL PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO ASSURE THAT THE WORKER HAS ACCESS TO THE STORES WHERE THE WORKERS CAN PURCHASE GROCERIES.
Transport: THE EMPLOYER WILL TAKE STEPS TO ARRANGE FOR TRANSPORTATION OF WORKERS VIA BUS OR SIMILAR TRANSPORT FROM THEIR PLACE OF RECRUITMENT TO THE PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE WORK PERIOD.
ADDITIONALLY, THE EMPLOYER WILL ARRANGE FOR TRANSPORTATION BACK TO THE PLACE OF RECRUITMENT FOR THE WORKERS AT THE END OF THE WORK PERIOD.

Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment.
