The job
The employer is seeking reliable, hardworking individuals to assist with the tomato harvest. Agricultural Equipment Operator / Bus Driver will safely operate farm equipment in the field such as field trucks, tractors and forklifts. Duties will include taking loads of tomatoes to the farm's loading area, tying loads of tomatoes, untying loads, unloading full bins of crop, loading empty bins, returning them to the field and washing the farm equipment. They may also include dumping tomatoes, field walking and other general farm labor or relevant duties as directed by farm operator. They will also conduct simple daily vehicle maintenance checks (DOT pre and post-trip inspections), pick up workers from employer-provided housing, take them to the worksite, and drive them back to their housing. They will only spend about fifteen percent of their workday doing these driving duties.
This job will be done under varying extreme outdoor weather conditions such as heat, high humidity, direct sunlight, cold weather, possible rain, wind, and exposure to pollen, soil, mud, dust and other natural elements. Repetitive physical conditions such as prolonged walking, standing, heavy bending, stooping, reaching and lifting will be involved on a regular basis. Must have or be able to obtain immediately a farm labor contractor license. Background check and random drug testing will be post-hire at employer's expense, per DOL/MSPA and DOT requirements.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: Employer-provided housing includes free and convenient kitchen facilities with appropriate equipment, appliances, cooking accessories, and dishwashing facilities which will enable workers to prepare their own meals. Dining, kitchen/cooking facilities and other common areas are shared by all workers. The employer will also provide free transportation for the workers residing in employer-provided housing, once per week to and from the food store. In the event that kitchen facilities become unavailable during the contract period, the employer will provide three daily meals in accordance with 20 CFR 655.122(g) and deduct the cost of such meals up to the maximum allowable amount published in the Federal Register, or as otherwise approved by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Transport: For workers hired from beyond normal commuting distance, after completion of 50 percent of the work contract period, the employer shall reimburse the worker for cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence, as required by DOL regulations, from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer to the place of employment. Workers must be dependable and punctual and have the ability to stand, bend, and work for long periods outdoors. They must pay attention to detail and quality. Workers must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by supervisors and practice safety in all aspects of work.
