The job

Skill Level 1

Feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies. Examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain. Provide medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations, or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment. Mark livestock to identify ownership, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos. Segregate animals according to weight, age, color, breed and physical condition when needed. Inspect and upkeep equipment, structures, pens, and yards. Assist in moving equipment or livestock from one location to another, manually or using trucks and trailers. Mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions. Shift animals between grazing or feed areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food. Maintain heated watering system and remove ice formed in water. Confine livestock in stalls as needed. Notify management when feed, Hay, bedding or supplies are needed. Perform duties related to livestock reproduction, such as breeding animals within appropriate timeframes, assisting with artificial inseminations, and helping with animal births. Assist patrolling grazing lands small lots and barns on foot or using all-terrain vehicles. Apply insecticides to animals. Clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps. Operate feed mix wagons, tractors to feed hay and silage to livestock feeding areas, and load manure and apply to fields. Livestock: Beef Cattle, Sheep.

General Conditions: If work is available beyond normal workdays, employer may offer, but not require, worker an opportunity to work additional hours. Workers will report to work at designated time and place as directed by assigned employer each day. Workers may be requested to ten (10) hours per day depending on weather and animal conditions. Also, workers may be requested to work on federal holidays and their Sabbath but will not be required. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available. Down time: Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather or other conditions beyond the employer’s control. These periods can occur any time throughout the season. Worker may be required to work in weather that requires clothing for conditions which include light rain/snow and temperatures ranging from 10 degrees to more than 90 degrees. Workers should be able to stand, bend, stoop and work for prolonged periods of time and be physically fit to perform duties as assigned. Care must always be exercised with any use of equipment.

Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)

Meals: The employer shall provide free and convenient access to cooking facilities or a kitchen so that workers can prepare their own meals. The employer will also provide transportation, at least once each week to assure that workers have access to stores.

Transport: The employer will permit workers eligible for travel reimbursement to select any means of transportation they choose, and employer will reimburse workers at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges

Physically able to bend, stoop, and able to stand on feet for long periods of time. Physically able to meet and perform all job specifications. May be required to take random drug and / or alcohol tests, at no cost to the worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment. All testing and background check will occur after employment has started and is not a part of the interview process. May be required to submit a criminal background check, at no cost to the worker. Felony convictions that employer reasonably believes, consistent with current law, will impair the safety and living conditions of other workers or other individuals on the farm will result in immediate termination. Failure to comply with request for criminal background check may result in immediate termination of employment.
