The job
On farms, Construction Helpers work under the direct supervision of experienced construction craft workers to provide manual assistance in the construction and repair of livestock confinement structures. Helpers do not independently determine construction measurements, grades, layouts, specifications, or installation methods.
Workers assist with building layout by holding measuring tapes, carrying and placing stakes and string lines, and marking points at locations identified by supervising workers. Workers assist with preparing footings and building areas by shoveling, raking, tamping, and moving soil according to grades and dimensions established and checked by supervisors.
Workers assist with concrete and reinforcing work by carrying reinforcing materials, holding rebar in position while it is secured, carrying and positioning form components as directed, and assisting with the movement and placement of concrete. Helpers do not independently establish grades, fabricate reinforcing assemblies, set or align forms, determine concrete specifications, or perform concrete finishing.
Workers unload, carry, sort, stage, and organize lumber, steel, tin sheets, trusses, fasteners, tools, and other building materials and keep construction craft workers supplied with needed materials and components.
Workers assist carpenters and other construction craft workers during assembly and erection of livestock-building components by carrying, lifting, passing, and holding materials in position while experienced workers measure, align, fasten, and install them. Workers may help lift and carry tin sheets or other sheeting and hold materials in place for installation. Helpers do not independently measure, cut, fabricate, align, fasten, assemble, or erect structural components or independently install roofing, siding, or doors.
Workers assist experienced workers with feeders, feed tanks, feed lines, curtains, gates, doors, and similar livestock-building components by retrieving parts and tools, carrying and holding components, removing or replacing basic hardware as directed, and performing basic hand-tool tasks under supervision. Workers may perform basic caulking and sealing as specifically directed and inspected by experienced workers. Helpers do not independently diagnose equipment problems, determine repair methods, fabricate components, or independently install or repair livestock systems.
Workers perform general job-site support and cleanup, including collecting and removing debris, sweeping, organizing tools and materials, and maintaining orderly work areas. Skilled construction craft workers remain responsible for determining measurements, grades, layouts, and installation methods and for performing the skilled construction, fabrication, fastening, installation, and repair work. Construction Helpers provide supporting manual labor under their direction and supervision.
