The job
Various tasks relating to the production of catfish including but not limited to: seining, equipment maintenance, grading levees, cutting grass, buoy maintenance, paddle wheel maintenance, feeding, weed-eating etc. Prepare ponds for fingerlings: drain ponds to allow them to dry out by exposure to air. Remove aquatic weeds and level bottom to facilitate seining. Fill the ponds with water. Unload fingerlings and place in ponds. Monitor and correct oxygen levels in pond water, observe fish behavior and physical condition. Monitor water temperature, quality and oxygen levels in all ponds especially at night. Maintain pond areas by removing weeds, grass, etc. Monitor ponds for disease and predatory birds.
Harvest food fish from ponds and loads fish onto trucks for transport. Wades in the pond to position net using a foot to keep the mud line of the net on bottom. Feed fish [hand or mechanical feeder] Performs typical farm and pond maintenance levee repair and maintenance, control predators, pull weeds, mow grass, clean and store equipment, etc. uses seines, dip nets, waders, gloves uses oxygen meter and/or chemical test kit. Able to swim and check screens on pumps for holes under water.Work outside in heat and cold, work in 4'-6 1/2' water in catfish pond. Handle live fish, some heavy lifting (30 pounds.) Will be required to work on repairing equipment including but not limited to electric paddle wheels, PTO driven paddle wheels, tractors, trucks, ATV’s, and oxygen monitoring systems. Will be required to monitor oxygen levels during night time hours, to drive tractors, trucks, forklift equipment, and ATV’s, to remove dead fish from ponds and bury, to fill tractors up with diesel fuel and check oil daily .Use arms and legs and move whole body walking in water, lifting, balancing, and stooping.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: Employer housing has free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities for the workers that will enable the workers to prepare their own meals. Kitchen facilities are furnished with stove, refrigerator, storage cabinets, food storage containers, cooking utensils, pots and pans, sinks, hot and cold water, cleaning supplies, and dishes. Bed linens, towels, bath cloths etc. are provided to each worker. Necessary cleaning supplies are furnished as needed. Workers are expected to maintain housing in a clean and orderly manner. All trash and debris must be placed in garbage cans provided.
Workers are offered free transportation at least once a week to assure workers access to bank and to stores where they can purchase groceries and other needed articles. Licensed drivers will be provided by employer for transportation to and from housing to job site and stores as necessary.
Transport: Employer will reimburse an employee’s inbound transportation and visa-related expenses (i.e. subsistence, lodging, etc.) in the first workweek to the extent that the costs would bring the worker wages below the FLSA minimum wage. The balance will be reimbursed at 50% of the contract period.” Employer will reimburse the worker cost for the transportation and subsistence from the worker’s home to the consulate. Employer will permit workers to select any means of transportation

Work is outside (both cold and hot), work in water, able to swim-ponds are 4-6 deep. Some heavy lifting (30 lbs.) Hours of work may vary due to weather conditions etc. Use various types of nets and/or seines to catch fish, uses mowers, hoes, shovels, Alternate work includes cleaning shed areas, removing debris from farm areas, repairing sheds, etc. Able to perform physically demanding job duties. Must be available for entire contract period and able to perform all job duties. Hours of work may vary due to job duties. Applicants meeting all qualifications required must possess documents to complete INS Form I-9 and be available at time and place necessary to begin employment.
