Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays):
Operate and maintain equipment used in grain storage and handling operations. Receive crops for drying and storage at grain storage facilities. Transport grain from fields to grain bins using pick-up trucks. Load and unload grain into trucks while maintaining appropriate grain levels. Operate augers, conveyors, and other grain conveying equipment to move and process grain. Monitor grain moisture levels to ensure proper storage conditions. Prepare scale tickets and maintain records of grain weights and quantities. Perform manual grain handling duties, including shoveling grain as needed. Dispose of spoiled or damaged grain in accordance with facility protocols and regulations. Perform general maintenance, repairs, and cleanup of grain bins, elevators, and related equipment to ensure safe and efficient facility operations. Maintain equipment in good working condition and notify supervisors of any machinery malfunctions or maintenance needs.
Outdoor and indoor work required in variable weather conditions (e.g., rain, snow, wind, direct sun, high humidity, etc.). Work in and around grain storage facilities may involve exposure to grain dust, mold, and agricultural chemicals. Allergies to grain dust, mold spores, insecticides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Work may involve prolonged periods of standing/walking, repetitive movements, and frequent bending and/or stooping. Workers must be able to handle, lift, and carry heavy or bulky objects (tools, equipment, grain, etc.). Workers should be aware of the hazards associated with grain bin and elevator operations.
Work is to be done for long periods of time. Workers will assist in loading trucks with product weighing up to and including 75 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet for long periods of time. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, related chemicals, etc. may affect workers' ability to perform the job. Workers are exposed to wet weather early in the morning through the heat of the day, working in fields. Temperatures may range from 10 to 100 F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations.
Clean driving record required. Must have or be able to obtain driver's license within 30 days following hire. Will drive company pick-up trucks. Pick-up truck is for multi-purpose use on an as needed basis (e.g., driving workers from employer-provided housing directly to the farm, around the farm properties during the work day, and possibly carrying equipment/supplies with them) and this may involve the worker(s) operating the vehicles across public roads in order to reach the other farm properties to perform their work. These multi-purpose vehicles have a capacity of less than 13 tons, require a standard driver's license to operate, may be used on or off farm by the workers (e.g., drive to the grocery store, bank, etc. at their discretion), and workers are not required or expected to arrange for the routine pick-up of another worker or groups of workers on a regular schedule at other housing locations or centralized pick-up points.
Job opportunity is Skill Level II. Workers must be able to perform all primary duties independently and without close supervision.
Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: Employer does not provide meals. Employer-provided housing includes free and convenient kitchen facilities with appropriate equipment, appliances, cooking accessories, and dishwashing facilities for meal preparation. For workers residing in employer-provided housing, employer also provides free transportation once per week to/from closest town or city for personal errands (e.g., groceries, banking services). Dining, kitchen/cooking facilities and other common areas are shared by all workers. In the event that kitchen facilities become unavailable during the contract period, employer will provide three daily meals in accordance with 20 CFR 655.122(g). In such circumstances, employer will deduct the cost of such meals up to the maximum allowable amount published in the Federal Register, or as otherwise approved by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Transport: Employer pays/reimburses foreign workers for all visa-related costs (excluding passport fees) in the first workweek. For non-local workers, employer arranges/provides inbound transportation via common carrier mode of transportation (e.g., bus or plane) and reimburses workers for daily subsistence and reasonable lodging costs, if applicable. This job requires a minimum of 3 months of prior experience working on a grain crop farm as a Grain Storage Facility Operator handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production, transplanting, and harvesting grain activities. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 75 lbs. Clean driving record required.
