The job
The workers on this application will perform seasonal winter and early spring repair and maintenance on farms, farm equipment, facilities, ventilation systems, and heating systems to keep farm operations functional during cold weather. Duties include inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing farm machinery and equipment used for winter operations, including tractors, trucks, snowplows,; replacing worn or damaged components caused by cold-weather use; charging and jumpstarting batteries affected by cold weather; checking fluid levels; replacing filters to prevent fluid gelling, contamination, and cold-start failure in freezing temperatures; lubricating equipment to maintain proper function in low temperatures; and performing general mechanical repairs using hand tools, power tools, drills, and precision instruments. Workers will prepare and repair machinery and equipment for continued operation during snow, ice, and freezing conditions and perform preventative or emergency repairs as needed to keep winter operations running. Workers will also inspect and repair farm building ventilation systems, vents, openings, and related components, including sealing areas to reduce drafts and heat loss and repairing or replacing components damaged by freezing or winter conditions. Workers will inspect, maintain, and repair farm heating systems, including boilers, forced-air systems, and related equipment, and identify and correct mechanical or electrical problems to keep heating and ventilation systems operational throughout the winter and early spring seasons.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: The employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities so workers may prepare their own meals. Employer will provide (on a voluntary basis) transportation to assure workers access to stores where they can purchase groceries and/or other incidentals.
If free and convenient kitchen facilities become unavailable for any reason, the employer will provide three (3) meals a day for which it will charge individual workers, by payroll deduction, no more than the daily permitted amount as provided in 20 CFR 655.173, which was $16.78 as of April 7, 2026, and which may be increased during the period of this employment.
Transport: Employer will either arrange for inbound and outbound transportation via a charter bus service for the worker, or if the worker prefers to arrange their own transportation, Employer will reimburse the worker at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges for the distances involved as well as for the related daily subsistence costs while the worker is traveling. Experience wanted: 3 months
Three (3) months of experience doing general maintenance and repair work in cold-weather or winter farm operations is required. Must be able to lift/carry 75 lbs/75 yards in outdoor, sub-freezing conditions. Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods in snow, ice, and cold temperatures. Post-employment drug test paid for by employer when applicable.
