The job
The Farm Equipment Mechanic will inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, service, and repair agricultural machinery and equipment used by the employer in the production, harvesting, handling, and processing of forage crops, including tractors, swathers/windrowers, hay rakes, balers, mowers, loaders, agricultural trailers, forage-processing equipment, implements, hydraulic equipment, and diesel-powered agricultural machinery. Duties include diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and operational problems; performing preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing; repairing or replacing worn or damaged bearings, belts, chains, pulleys, hoses, brakes, clutches, hydraulic components, and other mechanical parts; troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and electrical systems, wiring, batteries, starters, alternators, sensors, and diesel-powered equipment; adjusting, calibrating, and testing machinery; welding or fabricating agricultural equipment components as necessary to complete repairs; operating equipment as necessary to diagnose problems and verify proper operation following repairs; maintaining records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, parts used, and equipment condition; identifying and reporting equipment requiring additional repair or outside service; maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area; properly storing tools, equipment, and parts; following manufacturer specifications and applicable workplace safety procedures; and performing emergency or breakdown repairs to agricultural machinery and equipment as necessary during the employer’s seasonal forage-production and harvesting operations. Employer may provide pay increases for performance and experience at employer’s discretion. Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: The employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities and space for food preparation, as well as the necessary equipment, appliances (including refrigeration),cooking accessories, and dish washing facilities (e.g., adequate sinks with hot and cold water under pressure) that are in working condition and will be used by workers to sufficiently prepare three (3) meals a day. Employer will offer free transportation to town for personal services (i.e. banking, groceries) at least once per week for non range workers.
Transport: The employer will pay the worker for reasonable costs incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer, whether in the U.S. or abroad to the place of employment (inbound/outbound). The employer will permit workers to select any means of transportation they choose and reimburse workers at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges for the distances involved.
Experience wanted: 2 months
Workers must have a minimum of two (2) months of verifiable experience repairing and maintaining agricultural machinery and equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems. Workers must be able to diagnose and repair equipment, safely operate agricultural machinery for testing, and use required hand, power, diagnostic, and welding tools. The job requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, working in awkward positions, and lifting and carrying parts, tools, and equipment. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in conditions that may include dust, dirt, noise, weather, grease, oils, and fuels. Workers must follow all safety procedures, and a valid drivers license may be required to operate employer-provided vehicles or equipment.
