The job

Job duties will include, but are not limited to:

Feeding, watering, herding, castrating, branding, weighing, catching, and loading animals.

Examining animals to detect diseases and injuries and ensure that they are in optimal health.

Monitor corn stalk fields for grazing purposes and determine whether mother cows and calves should move to new grazing fields.

Hauling feed from trailers to cows and calves.

Maintaining winter animal housing areas; using diggers, shovels and other equipment needed

Ongoing maintenance includes cleaning, maintaining and repairing equipment, various workshop tasks as well as maintenance of grain bins and general buildings

Use various farming equipment like tractors, feed wagons, payloader and skid loaders.

Maintain watering systems, including freezing prevention and or repairs because of freezing.

Proper handling of calves and cows in various pregnancy and birthing stages, with additional care to accommodate cold and/or freezing temperatures at the time.

Processing/sorting of calves to include sorting and taking care of sick animals in need of application of pharmaceuticals with ongoing treatment per protocol.

Ongoing repair of feedlot equipment and facilities, including welding fences and structures.

Operating equipment to haul corn using tractors and wagons.

Remove manure from cattle pens.

Maintenance of farm equipment and animal housing areas.

Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)

Meals: Housing provided to the workers has a fully equipped kitchen where they can prepare and cook their own meals three times a day. The kitchen is fully functional and equipped with appliances such as stove, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher – all in working condition. The kitchen is equipped with the necessary utensils for prepping and cooking food. Adequate sinks with the warm and cold water under pressure. The employer will ensure that workers have access to a grocery store at least once a week to purchase their own food/produce. Workers have access to vehicles to drive themselves to the grocery stores from the house to the stores and back.

Transport: The Employer will, as per H2A regulations, reimburse the worker for travel cost, including daily subsistence rates stipulated at the time, from the worker’s place of residence to the workplace, and upon contract completion, from the workplace back to the worker’s place of residence at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charge for the distance involved, for example return bus and or airfare.
