General Farm Worker

The job

Worker will perform manual and mechanized agricultural work associated with the production of alfalfa and grass hay and the care of cattle and horses.

Duties include: operating, maintaining, and attaching farm equipment to till soil; plant; cultivate; fertilize; and harvest crops; performing irrigation activities, including setting up, monitoring, and maintaining irrigation systems; planting, cutting, baling, stacking, and loading hay; feeding, watering, handling, and monitoring livestock, including cattle and horses; removing weeds and undesirable or excess growth from crops and fields; removing rocks, shrubs, and trees from fields; mixing, handling, and applying fertilizers, herbicides, and other agricultural chemicals in accordance with label directions and safety requirements; performing general farm labor, including cleaning and maintaining farm areas.

Worker will: build, maintain, and repair fencing; paint, repair, and maintain farm buildings and structures; perform minor mechanical adjustments and routine maintenance on farm machinery and equipment; load and unload agricultural products, supplies, and equipment.

Worker must: drive and operate agricultural vehicles, including agricultural-exempt, non-CDL 10-wheel trucks, on public roads and between farm sites; operate motorbikes and/or all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in the course of performing assigned duties.

Work is performed outdoors and requires exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions. Worker must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds and perform prolonged sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and repetitive movements.

Worker must have experience in general farm work, irrigation, and livestock care and must be able to safely operate equipment and vehicles in accordance with employer policies and applicable laws.

Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)

Meals: Employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities including utensils, stoves, refrigeration, and dishwashing accommodations to H-2A workers and those workers in corresponding employment who are not reasonably able to return to their residence within the same day. All cooking and kitchen facilities will be maintained in working order and are sufficient for workers to provide and prepare three meals a day. Employer may occasionally provide meals free of charge. Employer will also provide free transportation to stores at least every two weeks to allow workers to shop for groceries and other necessary items.

Transport: At the time of filing, the modes of inbound and outbound transportation are not known, as the workers are permitted to select the means of transportation they will be reimbursed/paid no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges for the distances involved for inbound travel and outbound travel.
