The job
Monitor cows and heifers for signs of calving and assist with calving under the direction of the Herd Manager. Provide newborn calf care, including drying, navel care, identification, colostrum feeding, milk or milk replacer feeding, starter feed, and clean water. Monitor calves for illness, feeding difficulties, scours, respiratory problems, and poor growth. Assist with weaning and moving calves and replacement heifers between groups.
Monitor fresh cows for appetite, hydration, rumination, milk production, and signs of illness or complications. Assist with fresh cow checks and administer approved treatments as directed. Maintain clean, dry, and well-bedded maternity and calf areas. Clean and disinfect feeding equipment and work areas. Safely handle and move cows and calves. Maintain records of calvings, calf identification, health observations, treatments, and animal movements. Follow farm biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety procedures.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: The employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities so workers may
prepare their own meals. Employer will provide (on a voluntary basis) transportation to assure
workers access to stores where they can purchase groceries and/or other incidentals.
Transport: The employer will provide advance subsistence at a minimum amount of $16.78 per 24-hour period of travel from the place of recruitment to the place of employment (if it is the prevailing practice). Workers who provide receipts for meals and non-alcoholic beverages in excess of $16.78 will be reimbursed during the first pay period, up to the maximum of $68.00 per 24-hour period of travel from place of recruitment to the place of employment (if it is the prevailing practice).
Experience wanted: 3 months
Job requires a regular drivers license. Must be able to lift calves of 100lbs. Requires 3 months experience.
