The job
Workers will perform assigned duties as described in this clearance order and as instructed by their supervisors.
Romaine lettuce: The cutters (Crew of 12) will be taken to designated fields that are ready for harvest, the cutters will line up in front of the harvest machine, the machine has a conveyor belt that goes around the machine bringing in empty boxes, the cuter will bend over, cut and trim the romaine lettuce, put it inside the box or RPC, each container should have 4 lines of 6 romaine lettuce each, they will close the box and put the box on the conveyor belt to be transported to the back of the machine. On the romaine machine there is a platform were closers, stockers, strap and pallet jack person work, the crew consist of 10 to 14 workers, meeting quality standards is a very important part of the job. Cutters will have 5 days to train for this quality standards and quantity of work expected from them. In order to be able to keep up with the machine, workers should be able to cleanly cut: 12-13 heads per minute of Iceberg wrap lettuce heads, 16-18 heads per minute of Romaine flip top, 16-18 heads per minute of Romaine hearts, 16-20 heads per minute of any naked commodity.
Tray Pack: The worker will be lined up in designated leaf harvesting rows, then worker will start packing leaf onto Styrofoam trays. Worker must meet a requirement of packing 80 to 100 leaf harvesting trays per hour.
Corn: Corn pullers will line up in designated corn rows, stand or bend over each stalk, and manually snap off available ears of corn. After inspection, workers will toss the ears onto tables located on the harvesting machine, which moves continuously behind them. Depending on daily orders, specifications may require harvesting first and secondary ears. Workers must meet company quality standards and have a 5-day training period to achieve proficiency. To keep pace with the machinery, a corn puller must harvest a minimum of 50 boxes of corn per hour, and all new workers are expected to meet this minimum within the first 5 days of work.
Tray Pack: Workers will be lined up in designated corn rows to pack 4 to 6 ears of corn per Styrofoam tray. Workers must meet a production requirement of 80 to 100 corn trays per hour.
Other Vegetables: Once at the picking location, doing a row at a time, workers will move down the rows plucking/ pulling vegetables from the ground/plants and putting them in containers. Once the container is full the worker will take it to the truck and dump the container. The worker will go back to his picking area and fill his bucket/bushel up again, repeating the process through the work day. Workers will also do field packing.
PLANTING : All crops. Worker will plant and/or replant as needed. These tasks will include repetitive and physically demanding shovel work. Worker may lift up to 50lbs. Worker may be required to ride a mechanical planter (training will be provided). Worker may be required to hand plant using tools such as a spade or hand trowel. Vegetable Packing: Trucks will take the harvested vegetables to the packing house which is located inside the farm, workers will pick out the vegetables that will be used for seed the rest of the vegetables will be separated by size, labeled and packed.
NOTE: All packing activities will be performed directly inside the field.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: Employer-provided housing includes free and convenient kitchen facilities with appropriate equipment, appliances, cooking accessories, and dishwashing facilities for meal preparation. Also will provide transportation once per week to go to the stores and do laundry.
Transport: For workers hired from beyond normal commuting distance, after completion of 50 percent of the work contract period, the employer shall reimburse the worker for cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence, as required by DOL regulations, from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer to the place of employment.

This type of work, involves working conditions that require tremendous stamina, a high level of physical activity in cold or extremely hot conditions in direct sunlight and in adverse weather such as rain. The work requires a high level of physical conditioning.
