The job

• Provide daily care, handling, feeding, and watering of cattle, ensuring the health, welfare, and well-being of the herd.

• Prepare, measure, and mix animal feed rations according to established feeding requirements and distribute feed to cattle.

• Maintain livestock watering systems, including taking preventative measures to prevent freezing and thawing, repairing, or replacing frozen or damaged water lines, tanks, and related equipment.

• Properly handle and care for cows at various stages of pregnancy and assist with calving operations, including monitoring cows before, during, and after calving and providing appropriate care during cold and freezing weather.

• Provide daily care for newborn calves, including feeding, cleaning, handling, monitoring, and general health checks.

• Sort and process calves according to farm procedures, including identifying and separating sick or injured animals requiring additional care.

• Apply or assist with the application of veterinary pharmaceuticals and follow established treatment protocols under the direction of farm management or the farm veterinarian.

• Monitor cattle for signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behavior and report health concerns to farm management.

• Clean and maintain barns, livestock housing, feeding areas, pens, and other livestock facilities.

• Remove manure from livestock pens and designated areas using appropriate hand tools, machinery, and equipment.

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on farm equipment, livestock facilities, fences, gates, feeding equipment, watering systems, and other farm infrastructure.

• Clear snow and ice from around barns, driveways, feeding areas, feeding pads, access gates, livestock facilities, and other farm work areas using hand tools, tractors, loaders, or other farm equipment.

• Perform general farm maintenance, groundskeeping, and upkeep of livestock facilities and surrounding farm areas.

• Operate tractors, loaders, farm machinery, hand tools, and other agricultural equipment safely and responsibly.

• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas and comply with farm safety, hygiene, animal welfare, and operating procedures.

• Perform other related agricultural and livestock duties as assigned by farm management.

Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)

Meals: Housing provided to the workers has a fully equipped kitchen where they can prepare and cook their own meals three times a day. The kitchen is fully functional and equipped with appliances such as stove, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher – all in working condition. The kitchen is equipped with the necessary utensils for prepping and cooking food. Adequate sinks with the warm and cold water under pressure. The employer will ensure that workers have access to a grocery store at least once a week to purchase their own food/produce. Workers have access to vehicles to drive themselves to the grocery stores from the house to the stores and back.

Transport: The Employer will, as per H2A regulations, reimburse the worker for travel cost, including daily subsistence rates stipulated at the time, from the worker’s place of residence to the workplace, and upon contract completion, from the workplace back to the worker’s place of residence at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charge for the distance involved, for example return bus and or airfare.
