The job

Workers will perform seasonal livestock duties associated with the employer’s winter calving season from December through March. During this period, cattle are confined to winter/calving areas because pasture forage is unavailable and require daily feeding, watering, monitoring, and care. Workers will monitor pregnant cows for signs of labor; assist with births and deliveries as necessary; care for cows and newborn calves; feed and water livestock; monitor feed and water supplies; mix feed, supplements, additives, and medications in prescribed portions; and distribute feed using trucks, tractors, feed wagons, or other farm equipment. Workers will examine cattle and calves for signs of illness, injury, disease, abnormal behavior, or other health concerns; assist with livestock reproduction and routine animal care; segregate, mark, tag, and identify livestock; move cattle between pens, calving areas, enclosures, scales, trailers, and other designated areas; and assist with loading and unloading livestock as needed. Workers will clean and maintain stalls, pens, calving areas, feeding areas, livestock equipment, and facilities using disinfectants, brushes, shovels, hoses, pumps, and other appropriate tools and may operate trucks, tractors, skid steers, loaders, feed wagons, and other equipment necessary to care for livestock. The employer’s need for these workers is seasonal because the cattle require intensive daily care, feeding, monitoring, and calving assistance during the winter confinement and calving period; once spring pasture and forage become available, the cattle are released to pasture and the need for daily feeding, confinement care, and intensive calving-related labor ends.
