The job

Assist with the daily care and management of beef cattle during the winter season on a Kansas cattle farm. Responsibilities include daily feeding and watering, monitoring herd health, administering vaccinations and prescribed treatments, assisting with calving and calf processing, maintaining and repairing equipment and fencing, and performing general livestock and farm maintenance duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Feed and provide fresh water to beef cattle daily, ensuring adequate nutrition and access to water during winter weather conditions.

* Monitor cattle daily for signs of illness, injury, distress, or abnormal behavior and promptly report concerns to the farm operator.

* Assist with routine herd health management, including administering vaccinations, injections, and prescribed treatments as directed.

* Identify cattle exhibiting signs of illness or injury and assist with appropriate treatment under the direction of the farm operator.

* Assist with calving operations, including monitoring cows during calving, identifying animals requiring assistance, and helping with difficult births under supervision.

* Perform routine calf care, including tagging, processing, handling, and monitoring newborn calves.

* Safely gather, sort, move, and restrain cattle for feeding, vaccination, treatment, and other management activities.

* Inspect, maintain, and repair livestock fencing, gates, posts, and related facilities to ensure cattle are safely contained.

* Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on farm equipment, machinery, vehicles, and livestock feeding and watering equipment.

* Identify equipment malfunctions and perform necessary repairs or report issues requiring additional assistance.

* Maintain and inspect waterers, feed bunks, and livestock facilities, including preventing and addressing freezing-related problems.

* Assist with maintaining clean, safe, and functional livestock pens, working areas, and feeding facilities.

* Operate tractors, feed trucks, and other farm equipment as needed for livestock feeding, maintenance, and care.

* Perform other general livestock, equipment maintenance, fencing, and farm duties related to winter cattle operations as assigned.

May drive to town for supplies. No CDL Required and no commercial truck driving required.

Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)

Meals: Employer-provided housing includes free and convenient kitchen facilities with appropriate equipment, appliances, cooking accessories, and dishwashing facilities for meal preparation. For workers residing in employer-provided housing, employer also provides free transportation once per week to/from closest town or city for personal errands (e.g., groceries, banking services).

Transport: The employer will permit workers to select any means of transportation they choose and provide reimbursement upon arrival at the farm for all inbound and outbound transportation at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges for the distance involved. This may include plane, train, bus, or automobile.

Experience wanted: 6 months

Minimum of 6 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. The worker will be exposed to extreme temperatures. Workers must have positive verifiable experience relevant to the job and be capable of performing physically demanding tasks. Workers must be able to speak English. Employees must adhere to strict biosecurity, company policies, and food safety guidelines, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Certain roles may require a valid drivers license within 30 days of hire and a clean driving record for operating company vehicles. Exceptional performance may be rewarded with additional compensation or benefits at the employers discretion.
