The job

SOC 45-2093 — 100% of work performed. During the winter calving period, the work centers on caring for purebred Angus show cattle and the embryo-placed calves due in December, January, and February, with the added attention needed because the cows and newborn calves require extra care in cold weather and extra feed must be given. Employees will prepare feed mixtures and distribute feed to animals, check drinking-water supplies and clean troughs, tanks, and watering equipment, and observe animals for illness, injury, distress, or changes in feeding behavior as the herd remains on pasture for most of the year and receives less intensive care outside this seasonal period. Employees will count, weigh, identify, and sort animals into designated groups, move animals between pastures, pens, barns, and handling areas, and assist with breeding activities and pregnancy checks as directed, including help placing embryos in recipient cows and carrying out heat detection and cattle care. Employees will monitor animals during birthing and assist with newborn care for the embryo-placed calves due all winter, apply identification tags and assist with vaccinations or other prescribed animal-care procedures, and separate animals requiring treatment or additional observation when needed. Employees will also load and unload animals for movement or sale, clean pens, stalls, barns, chutes, and animal-handling areas, remove animal waste and replace bedding where required, repair fences, gates, livestock enclosures, and watering systems, operate feeding equipment, tractors, loaders, or farm vehicles used in animal care, and maintain records of animal identification, births, treatments, and movements. Job requires exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures and lifting up to 100 lbs. Must possess a valid, standard, non-commercial driver's license (e.g., Class C, D, R, E, F or 3 depending on state). Employer will conduct post-hire drug tests at no cost to the employee to enforce a drug free workplace policy. Failing a drug test will result in termination. Employee must have 3 months of verifiable experience.

Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)

Meals: The employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities and space for food preparation, as well as the necessary equipment, appliances (including refrigeration), cooking accessories, and dish washing facilities (e.g. adequate sinks with hot and cold water under pressure) that are in working condition and will be used by workers to sufficiently prepare three (3) meals a day. Employer will offer free transportation to town for personal services (i.e. banking, groceries) at least once per week for non range workers.

Transport: The employer will pay the worker for reasonable costs incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer, whether in the U.S. or abroad to the place of employment (inbound/outbound). The employer will permit workers to select any means of transportation they choose and reimburse workers at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges for the distances involved.
