The job
This year we will be staggering the dates workers begin working. Work in hybrid catfish hatchery. Clean and sterilize equipment. Collect brood fish and sort male from female fish. Handle live brood fish; weigh, administer hormone shots, collect fish eggs by hand from female brood fish, collect sperm from male brood fish and fertilize eggs. Incubate and oxygenate eggs in egg hatching tanks. Move hatched eggs, sac-fry, to rearing troughs for 3-5 days. Feed swim-up fry 2-7 days and transfer to nursery ponds. Move fish to rearing ponds, feed and grow to fingerling size (3-8 inches long) for 5 to 10 months. Record spawning output, egg hatchability, fry survival, and growth rates of fingerlings and food sized fish. Work on catfish ponds; Drive tractors up to 250 HP. Feed fish and fingerlings Check oxygen levels and water temperature in ponds. Monitor ponds for insects and disease. Run birds off the farm ponds. Seine ponds to harvest and move fish and fingerlings. Load out fish and fingerlings for transport. Hook and unhook aerators. Clean equipment (e.g. paddle wheels, buoys, etc.) Maintain record of fish harvested by weight, by fish size, number transferred etc. Get ponds ready for new crop of fish; Drain and pump up ponds, cleaning out ponds, salt ponds, levee preparation and maintenance.Maintenance and repairs on farm property and farm equipment; clean shop area, clean and repair equipment. Mow grass with a tractor and brush hog or large mower. Weed eat, level roads, and service tractors. General farm maintenance.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: Employer housing has free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities for the workers that will enable the workers to prepare their own meals. Kitchen facilities are furnished with stove, refrigerator, storage cabinets, food storage containers, cooking utensils, pots and pans, sinks, hot and cold water, cleaning supplies, and dishes.
Workers are offered free transportation at least once a week to assure workers access to bank and to stores where they can purchase groceries and other needed articles. Licensed drivers will be provided by employer for transportation to and from housing to job site and stores as necessary.
The furniture includes-- sofa, dining table, chairs, beds, stove, refrigerator, washing machine. Cooking and eating utensils are provided. All linens, towels, sheets, pillows, etc. are provided. Utilities, electricity, water, etc. are also provided. Housing is provided at no cost to workers who are not reasonably able to return
Transport: The employer will reimburse inbound transportation and visa-related costs in the first workweek to the extent that the costs would bring the worker wages below the FLSA minimum wage and reimburse the balance at 50% of the contract period. The workers can select means of transportation and the employer will reimburse workers at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges for the distances involved. Must be available for entire contract period and able to perform all job duties. 4b. Able to drive 250 hp tractor and operate other farm equipment. A drivers license is not required to drive farm trucks on farm access roads or to drive farm implements, tractors etc. 4e. Some heavy lifting (30 lbs.) feed. 4f. Work is performed outdoors and involves exposure to sun, rain, heat, cold, insects and other natural elements. 4g-4j. Seining requires use of arms, legs and moving whole body walking in water 4-4 1/2 feet deep, lifting, balancing, and stooping. Able to swim-ponds are 6-12 feet deep. Duties in nursery are repetitive and workers stand 100% of time. Hours of work may vary due to weather conditions and job duties. For cause drug testing.
