The job

The worker will perform seasonal agricultural duties associated with the winter feeding and care of cattle on a family cattle ranch in Arnegard, North Dakota, where North Dakota winter conditions require daily feeding and observation of the herd. The majority of the worker's time will be spent feeding and watering livestock daily throughout the winter months. During the winter feeding period, the worker will move and stack hay bales for feeding, haul and handle stored feed and grain used for winter feeding, and operate and maintain tractors, fences, water supplies, and other farm equipment and facilities used in the winter care of livestock. Winter duties also include moving and handling livestock, inspecting animals for signs of illness or injury, administering vaccinations, assisting with the treatment of sick or injured livestock, and assisting with births and the care of young livestock as calving begins. General farm labor is limited to work directly related to the winter feeding and care of the cattle. The need for this worker ends when the cattle go out on summer pasture and no longer require daily winter monitoring. Work hours are dependent on weather, crop conditions, and operational demands and may fluctuate during the season.
