The job
SOC 45-2093: 100% of work performed. Employees will work in a chicken hatchery production facility that incubates chicken eggs, hatches chicks, separates chicks by sex, packages customer chick orders, and ships chicks to customers. Work begins with receiving eggs and moving them through the hatchery process by placing eggs on trays, loading trays into incubators, transferring eggs from incubators to hatchers, and loading chicks into separator equipment for sex sorting by examining feathers and colors of chicks to segregate chicks according to sex. Employees will assist in all areas of the hatchery and farms, including toe, wing, and beak clipping, vaccinating, receiving, loading, and unloading eggs and chicks in the hatchery, at farms, and at shipping locations, and driving to farms and shipping locations using vans to support movement of eggs and chicks. They will also fill customer orders, package chicks for shipment, dump product waste, clean and sanitize the facility and equipment, and perform all other duties as assigned. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer. Workers returning for a consecutive season will be paid at their previous season’s rate if that rate exceeds the current published rate.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: The employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities and space for food preparation, as well as the necessary equipment, appliances (including refrigeration), cooking accessories, and dish washing facilities (e.g. adequate sinks with hot and cold water under pressure) that are in working condition and will be used by workers to sufficiently prepare three (3) meals a day. Employer will offer free transportation to town for personal services (i.e. banking, groceries) at least once per week for non range workers.
Transport: The employer will pay the worker for reasonable costs incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer, whether in the U.S. or abroad to the place of employment (inbound/outbound). The employer will permit workers to select any means of transportation they choose and reimburse workers at no less than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges for the distances involved.
Experience wanted: 3 months
Job requires extensive sitting or walking, frequent stooping or bending over, repetitive movements, and a 75 lb lifting requirement. Must possess a valid, standard, non-commercial driver's license (e.g., Class C, D, R, E, F or 3 depending on state). Employer will conduct post-hire drug tests at no cost to the employee to enforce a drug free workplace policy. Failing a drug test will result in termination. Employee must have 3 months of verifiable experience.
