The job

Workers will perform assigned duties as described in this clearance order,

Workers may perform manual labor associated with planting, field maintenance, weeding, harvesting, and packing of vegetables, including cabbage and peppers, in open fields and within the farm’s on-site packing facility. During planting, workers may follow a tractor-mounted mechanical hole planter down crop rows, retrieve plant trays from a field supply truck, walk down assigned rows to manually place one plant per hole at proper depth and spacing, and return empty trays to the supply truck for replacement throughout the workday. For harvesting, workers may walk down field rows to hand-pick mature produce by plucking or snapping peppers or using hand knives to cut cabbage heads from stalks, placing harvested produce into buckets or containers, carrying full containers to field trucks to carefully unload them, and returning to fill containers repeatedly. Field maintenance duties may include staking, tying, and pruning plants, cleaning micro-jet irrigation emitters, pulling and removing plastic drip lines, and removing dead plants using hand tools or by hand. Weeding activities may involve clearing weeds from walkways using long-handled hoes, hand-pulling weeds around plant bases, raking crop debris into piles, and disposing of waste as instructed by the supervisor.

Workers may also perform field packing in open-air conditions by sorting, grading by size and quality, trimming, and packing produce directly into cartons, crates, or bags on mobile field-packing trailers. In addition, workers may work in the farm's on-site packing house to unload incoming field trucks, inspect and sort produce by size and quality standards, apply product labels, and pack produce into shipping containers. The packing house is located on the farm premises, and more than 50% of the produce processed is grown directly by the primary employer.

When primary harvesting or field work is temporarily unavailable due to weather conditions, crop conditions, physical work restrictions, operational needs, or other lawful business reasons, workers may be assigned miscellaneous incidental duties and general clean-up work directly related to the agricultural operation across the worksite, farm property, agricultural structures, housing, and fence lines. These activities will not replace or substantially reduce the availability of primary agricultural work and may include preparing land for planting crops; loading and unloading supplies; sprouting, pruning, and painting trees; debris, weed, and vine removal; fence and irrigation repair; routine installation and removal of plastic mulch and irrigation drip tape; basic irrigation inspection, maintenance, and adjustments; cleaning, disinfecting, and performing routine upkeep of harvest buckets, bins, trailers, hand tools, farm vehicles, and agricultural equipment; and basic cleaning and repair of common-use facilities, housing, and agricultural structures during paid work hours to maintain safe and sanitary conditions. Workers will not perform mechanical repairs, specialized servicing, or other skilled mechanical maintenance, and supervisors will instruct workers in the proper methods for all assigned incidental duties.
