The job

Field workers will harvest cilantro in the field, either manually or alongside a harvesting machine. Harvesting is performed while kneeling on planting beds. Workers will determine the appropriate size, quality, and maturity of the cilantro to be harvested.

Using a harvesting hand knife, workers will cut the cilantro at the roots, remove defective or damaged leaves by hand, and trim the stems to meet quality standards. Harvested cilantro will then be tied, sleeved, or banded before being packed into cartons or totes or placed onto a conveyor belt.

Workers are responsible for ensuring that all cartons and totes meet the required product count, weight, and quality specifications.

Workers will sort, bunch, and pack harvested cilantro into cartons, totes, or bins according to established quality standards and packing requirements. Workers may perform these duties in the field or on harvesting machines and assist with loading packed cilantro as directed by the supervisor.

Additional duties include cleaning and maintaining harvesting tools, equipment, and work areas; assisting with general yard maintenance; and following established food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures. Workers must follow supervisor instructions and applicable procedures for handling organic and conventional crops to prevent cross contamination.
