The job
Attend to, groom, and care for horses according to instruction. Perform general stable care. Provide horses with water, food, and supplements as instructed and administer medications as necessary. Assist in pre-foaling, labor, post-foaling, foal turnout and care, and mare teasing and weaning. Perform horse facility maintenance, paddock upkeep, fence repair to prevent equine injury, groundskeeping to eliminate hazards that could injure horses, brush clearing to remove noxious weeds that could harm horses or cause illness, and general maintenance to prevent equine injury. Shift horse locations between stable, grazing, and training areas as directed.
Workers may perform other duties incidental to the primary job duties, including cleaning animal quarters, maintaining farm facilities and equipment, and performing similar agricultural tasks. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)
Meals: Free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities are provided to all workers in employer-provided housing so that workers can prepare their own meals. Spendthrift's H-2A workers are able to walk to a Mexican grocery store, which is a two-minute walk away from the apartment complex where the workers will reside. Additionally, there is a Walmart (with full grocery and shopping departments) located across the street, also within walking distance. Workers may walk to these stores to procure food. Spendthrift Farm also owns a truck available of use by the H-2A workers who possess driver's licenses.
Transport: Inbound, H-2A workers will ride in a van from their homes to Monterrey, Mexico. They will then take flights from Monterrey to Lexington, Kentucky. Last, they will ride in a van from the airport to the farm. Their outbound travel will follow the same pattern in reverse. Spendthrift will cover the cost of all phases of this transportation including the van rides and airline flights.

B.2: Work Experience: 1 month of experience working with horses or on farms. Supervision: Workers will perform all job duties according to the instruction and supervision of the farm manager, horse trainers, riders and other senior staff. Extremely specific instructions may be given regarding care for particular horses, sometimes on a daily basis. Stable Attendants will not supervise any other workers and will regularly report to their supervisors regarding work performance. Workers must be physically able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time, be able to lift 50 pounds, and must be able to endure manual labor through extreme variant weather conditions, between temperatures of 20 and 100 Fahrenheit, high humidity, wind, rain, sleet, snow, etc. Workers must appear promptly at or before the designated start time on each workday and completely perform a full day of work until the designated end time.
